Dear Supporter,

Summary of the project 'Ukrainian Children's Holidays in Poland'.

Thank you for your generous support for a holiday camp for Ukrainian children being held in Poland. I am pleased to advise this important project is proceeding.

During our annual Changeover Dinner in June, our Club raised $4,000 to support a project run by the Rotary Club of Warsaw to establish a camp to assist 50 Ukrainian children and teachers near Warsaw.

From donations, raffles, and your generosity, together with $2,500 from the Rotary Club of Hall, meant we raised $9,500 (5,800 Euros) —just over one-quarter of the 21,000 Euro budget for the camp. This money was sent to the Rotary Club of Warsaw on 29 June 2023.

Also, some Australian Rotarians donated a total of around 1,300 Euros directly to the Rotary Warsaw account.

During the fundraising for this project, the Rotary Club of Frankfurt donated 5,000 Euros and the Rotary Club of Warsaw initially donated 5,000 Euros and to finalise a project another 4,000 Euros.

Then we received additional good news. The owners of Klub Sosnowy (the camp host—see photo above) contributed to the project, allowing the total number of participants to rise from 50 to 80 (including teachers).

Our Club members and International Director Olek Gancarz maintained constant communication with the President of the Rotary Club of Warsaw Piotr Kaczorowski. We will have a ZOOM meeting with Piotr on 12 October 2023 and you will be invited to participate if you wish.

The entire holiday program is divided into two rounds:

Round 1 was held from 23 July to 2 August and involved 38 participants from Zaporozhye around 1,060 kilometres from Warsaw. Some photos from this round are attached in a separate document.

Round 2 will start on 20 September, with 40 participants from Vinnytsia near Lviv around 420 kilometres from Warsaw.

Children and teachers at Klub Sosnowy, 10 km from Warsaw will receive:

  • on site accommodation for 10 days, meals, sports activities: swimming
  • ping-pong, outdoor activities classes in the knowledge of modern society, introduction to the Latin alphabet, basic Polish, and English phrases
  • trips to the centre of Warsaw visiting Old Town,POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, Copernicus Science Centre, and other places.
