Rotary Club of Canberra Burley Griffin - News Notes 16th February

Notes on the Run:

Thanks to our members who manned the Parking at the Black Opal Stakes last weekend. A miserable weekend for standing outside but the results for our Club are priceless. There are several community  activities coming up which we can get our teeth into. In the meantime, enjoy the week and I will see you on Thursday at the Golf Club.
Remember the following week our meeting is at the Red Shed  café – Russell will announce the details.

Last Week’s Meeting:

The Age of Astronomy is Now!
So says Tony Muscio who spoke at this week’s meeting. Tony kindly travelled up from Neriga where he lives to deliver a mind-bending talk on the Golden Age of Cosmology. We heard about the detection of Gravitational Waves, about Neutrino Cosmology, about Precision Mapping of the Cosmic Background and about Infrared imaging. To know more on the subject look for the Podcast “Space Nuts” by Fred Watson.
On the question of who or what designed the Universe it was suggested that it may be that there is no designer or that God designed everything. On either suggestion there is no clear evidence we are left to expand our minds to try and grasp the significance of it all…

Thought for the Week
And remember, we all stumble, every one of us. That's why it's a comfort
to go hand in hand.

Joke for the Week
Can a kangaroo jump higher than the Empire State Building? Of course,  the Empire State Building cant jump.
