RCCBG News Notes 19 February 2024: there’s a lot happening!

Notes on the run
Canberra show parking is coming up this weekend, it's a good fun and a good money spinner - remember to bring a hat!

I found the talk on Malta fascinating. I’d love to also hear from a Maltese perspective about how they perceive the whole thing now.

On a family note, Vanessa has now submitted her Thesis - The coenzyme A biosynthesis pathway of the human malaria parasite plasmodium falciparum and toxoplasmosis gondii - There will be a test coming up - anyone who can recite the title with looking gets a Caramello Koala!

We have a zoom meeting this week - I'll see everyone virtually on Thursday.
Warrick

Last week’s meeting

Thanks to Linda Peek for a great talk last Thursday about her mother's childhood in Malta as it was under attack during World War II. Fortunately, her mother was not shot (you'll need to get Linda's book Malta: A Childhood Under Siege to find out why she could have been).

Wise words from Eric……
Some time ago we enjoyed a presentation at our Club meeting about the usefulness of Calcium Scores to help assess and prevent serious heart problems. This is a relatively new test which has been shown to accurately predict problems with your heart and give enough time to take remedial action.
Well, that’s what happened to Eric. Having heard the presentation, Eric arranged a Calcium Score test even though he felt he had no heart problems, is fit and active with regular rounds of golf and the occasional hike with Bill. His Score concerned his GP sufficiently to warrant a visit to a cardiologist and before you know it, Eric was booked for a small operation to insert a stent . He has made a full recovery is now better than new.
So the lesson is, have regular check-ups and get a Calcium Score test.
