Rotary Club of Canberra Burley Griffin - News Notes 11th May 2026
Notes on the Run:
The sudden cool change was the topic of discussion last week and probably kept some of our members at home.
However, we were entertained by George Wilson who mesmerised us with a pictorial tour of India where he and Lynn recently spent a few weeks. From the excitement of an Indian wedding, to discovery tours of reservations to see how the numerous endangered species were being nurtured back to life, we were enthralled.
Thank you George.
This week Ross will Chair the meeting and introduce a specialist team from the AFP talking about the SPAM epidemic for those members who are dependent on the internet for finanicial and social connections. A very important topic.
See you there.
EARLY NOTICE: Changeover Dinner will be held on 11th June at the Stepping Stones Restaurant, Dickson. A night of fun, festivity and celebration for a hard year's achievements. See you there.

Last Week’s Meeting:
Assembled members enjoyed a very entertaining presentation from George in 2 parts.
The first featured many video vignettes from the wedding in northern India of one of George’s research assistants for past 3 years. It was a mammoth gala event with 350 guests taking over a resort as two sisters married on consecutive days. If you saw ABC’s Foreign Correspondent episode this week, this was on a similar epic scale.
The second part was from Lyn and George visiting National Parks in southern India between Bangalore and Cochin in Kerala state - game reserves on a grand scale with plenty of photos of birds, monkeys and elephants and historical and cultural sites.
I am sure many of us left wishing we could make a similar expedition, especially enriched by personal contacts in-country.
President Elect Neil.
There were many changes of clothes for the wedding
One of the many stages of the wedding - pouring coconut milk on the happy couple.
George pointed out the huge following amongst all levels of society for a game of Cricket......
In the distance is a rare Indian Bison - Gaur.
A freshie - bit bigger than ours!
Modern India - thriving and succeeding.
