Rotary Club of Canberra Burley Griffin - News Notes 18th May 2026
Notes on the Run:
Our lunch meeting was made a little more interesting because the management of the Golf Club allocated the larger function room to us. It was spacious, airy and full of light, with glimpses of the golf course in the background. Why couldn’t we do this every week?
Ross had an email from Bruce Timbs who now lives on the Gold Coast with Leah. Bruce was our second President in 1985 and introduced us worthwhile community activities such as the youth life skills programme to educate children about drugs. He will be visiting us later in the year.
This week will be an adventure to the Botanical Gardens thanks to Astrida. See you there.
Put Wednesday 10th June into your diary - the annual Changeover Dinner. Ross and the organisers will announce details next week. Friends and family ae welcome to attend.

Last Week’s Meeting:
AFP officers Alison and Hayley provided invaluable information about Scam and "What to do" and What not to do". They explained Online scams come in many varieties aimed at stealing you identity, hacking your personal information and accounts, fake invoices and phishing.
A big problem is in relation to Romance scams which understandably target lonely senior people with financial resources.
It is usually easy to spot a scam: spelling mistakes; suspicious sender address; generic greetings; suspicious attachments and credibility problems when confronted.
What to Do? - don't give personal information; usual strong passwords; report e-mails you don't trust; don't click on advertisements and DONT BE PRESSURED.
A very helpful presentation!
