Last week - social meeting at the Red Shed.
Lovely setting, fine food but the photo doesn't do it justice.... It was a relaxing catch up with Neil, Russell, Graeme, Warrick, Astrida, Ross, Stephen and Bill to look at service activities with renewed Springtime enthusiasm and reflect on our planning objectives.
A useful discussion was held about membership, our banking arrangements and what needs to be done at the Candle festival on the 24th October. More next week.

Travelling Rotarian Report
During a short visit to Cootamundra, I noticed this structure and decided to investigate. This Peace Pavilion recognises a declaration of the Shire of Cootamundra as a “District 9700 Peace Community”.
(For newer members, District 9700 merged with our District some time ago to form current District 9705.) The declaration was made on 5 November 2014 by the Mayor of Cootamundra Shire, Councillor Jim Slattery.
It seems that the words “Rotary” and “peace” appear together in many places. Which is a good thing.

Join us for the International Day of Peace
Members are invited to join us at the Rotary Peace Bell at Nara Peace Park on Monday 21 September to commemorate the UN International Day of Peace. Observed around the world each year, the day promotes peace, non-violence and a temporary halt to fighting, reminding us of the importance of working together for a more peaceful world.
The commemoration will feature a number of distinguished speakers, including representatives from the United Nations, His Excellency Suzuki Kazuhiro, Japanese Ambassador, and Judy Ford, Rotary District Governor 9705. A highlight of the morning will be the presentation of the annual ACT Chief Minister’s Rotary Peace Prize, with Andrew Barr MLA, Chief Minister of the ACT, presenting the award to a deserving peace advocate in recognition of their contribution to peace and community harmony.
