NOTES ON THE NEXT SPEAKER AT OUR THURSDAY MEETING

Next week's guest speaker will be Libby O'Brien, District Rotaract Representative and District Board member.

Libby will speak on the evolving role of Rotaract.  Rotary is envisaging an enhanced role for Rotaract, which until recently was for people under the age of 30 with an interest in community service.  While that age limit no longer applies, Rotaractors are predominantly in their 20's and 30's, and are an important part of the Rotary family.

We are also expecting Gretchen Druliner, a former Rotary Peace Scholar currently undertaking a PhD at the ANU, to attend the meeting.

Thanks
Monica

AIMING FOR FIVE MORE PEACE POLES FOR THE PEACE PARK

Once we unveiled Peace Pole 100 with 27 languages in Lennox gardens we were asked by members of the Canberra Multicultural Community Forum what about us and our language. As an example there are over 27 languages just for India! The idea is to create a series on regional Peace Poles that may carry say:
Pacific Island Languages
European Languages
Indian Languages
African Languages
Asian Languages.

Each pole would be funded by those community groups. Our Club would coordinate matters and fund freight. Maybe $150. Our club name would appear on each pole and the community group that funded the pole as the donating parties. It should look very good with a series of poles placed around the walkway.

We still have to obtain approval from the NCA and then the formal approval from the ACT Government who we have already been speaking with.

I hope that is clear and okay.

Cheers

A FURTHER UPDATE ON THE EUGOWRA FLOOD ASSISTANCE

The purpose of this message is to advise clubs that the Rotary D9705 Eugowra Flood Video was premiered on Sunday 5 Feb at the Eugowra Bowling Club.  District Governor Geraldine Rurenga attended.

The Rotary Club of Parkes provided a BBQ.

Trailer.   Robert Shore advises that the trailer for the video can be found on the Rotary Club of Parkes's YouTube channel here.

Voucher distribution by Orange Ex-Services' Club with help from Rotary
You may recall that on Friday 28 Jan Orange Ex-Services' Club held an event to allow the distribution of cash vouchers to many flood-affected residents of Eugowra.   The event was organised by Rotarian Graeme Fleming and he was aided by many local Rotary volunteers.
A video of that event is here.
Yours in Rotary

HOW TO LEARN ABOUT TAKING A POSITION IN ROTARY

REGISTRATION FOR THE COMBINED PETS (President Elect Training) and Learning and Development is now open on the District Web site.

PETS (President Elect Training) is an important event in your Calendar when you are coming into the President role in your Club.  It is a requirement of Rotary International that you attend this training to prepare you for this important role. The responsibilities for Presidents Elect will be outlined and discussed in sessions separate to Learning and Development.

This year we are combining PETS also with inviting all your club members to attend  - not just your Board but everyone and including new members to your Club. All members will be working with their particular area of interest for the Learning & Development sessions.  We want to support preparing your Board and Club members for their roles.  This will assist in providing a strong united Club, understanding each role and its place in the smooth running of your Club.  It will also give you a chance to work with your Area Governor and understand how they are there to support and assist your Club.
And last, but not least is the camaraderie we always enjoy when we are all together!

So register now for one of these weekends!

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
JOKES……..PONDERISMS

Joke #1……..
As it's no longer politically correct to direct a joke at any racial or ethnic minority, try this one:
An Englishman, a Scotsman, an Irishman, a Welshman, a Ghurkha, a Latvian, a Turk, an Aussie, a German, a Yank, an Egyptian, a Jap, a Mexican, a Spaniard, a Russian, a Pole, a Lithuanian, a Jordanian, a Kiwi, a Swede, a Finn, a Canadian, an Israeli, a Romanian, a Bulgarian, a Serb, a Swiss, a Greek, a Singaporean, an Italian, a Norwegian, an Argentinian, a Libyan, a Muslim, a Hindu, a Buddhist and an African went to a night club.
Wait for it!
The bouncer said, "Sorry, I can't let you in without a Thai. "

Joke #2….. A pirate walked into a bar, and the bartender said, "Hey, I haven't seen you in a while. What happened? You look terrible."
"What do you mean?" said the pirate, "I feel fine."
"What about the wooden leg? You didn't have that before."
"Well," said the pirate, "We were in a battle, and I got hit with a cannon ball, but I'm fine now."
The bartender replied, "Well, OK, but what about that hook?  What happened to your hand?"
The pirate explained, "We were in another battle. I boarded a ship and got into a sword fight. My hand was cut off. I got fitted with a hook but I'm fine, really."
"What about that eye patch?"
"Oh," said the pirate, "One day we were at sea, and a flock of birds flew over. I looked up, and one of them shit in my eye."
"You're kidding," said the bartender. "You couldn't lose an eye just from bird shit."
"It was my first day with the hook."
