Acting President’s update:
Update – Venezuela earthquake
  • Club members donated $900 to shelter box – thankyou

This week:
  • Bill Andrews has organised a social event at the National Museum of Australia for Thursday, 16 July. We are booked in for the Antarctica Virtual Reality experience at 1.15 pm. We have been asked to arrive 10 minutes before the session starts to give time for head-set distribution, introduction and safety information presentation.
  • For lunch, we will have a booking at the Museum Café. May I suggest we arrive for lunch at around 12 Noon.
  • Numbers please – Invitation has been sent.

From the students
Joanne Hurley from Mawson Primary School visited the Club to thank Members for the Cub’s donation of $850 towards new soccer gaols at the school. The Club’s donation funded one quality, full size goal, with the school funding the other goal. The school also funded the purchase of two smaller goals for the junior school. Below is a letter of thanks from the students.

Next meeting
Our next meeting is a social function, a visit to the National Museum of Australia for the Antarctica Virtual Reality experience (not to be missed).
 
The plan is to meet in the Cafe at 12 noon for a light lunch (pre order with John Little if you can) and the show will commence at 1 15pm.
 
There is NO cost involved for this experience apart from parking and your lunch.
 
We need to know numbers so PLEASE respond to Eric’s invitation by 11 am on Tuesday, 14 July.

Speech to Parliament by Afghan Ambassador
Michael Rabey has drawn to our attention a speech to the Australian Parliament by the former Afghan Ambassador to Australia, who conducted a ceremony a few years ago to recognise 50 years of diplomatic recognition between Australia and Afghanistan. A transcript of the speech is available from:
