This Weeks Meeting Presentation

The World Energy Outlook and the Move to Net Zero Emissions

We will hear from Ian Cronshaw on the world energy outlook and the move to Net Zero emissions.

Ian is a former a Division Head at the International Energy Agency, with responsibility for analysing and reporting on developments in global gas, coal and power markets including nuclear and renewables. He spent 36 years working with the Australian Government on energy policy, ranging from reducing greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, renewables targets, oil and gas security, and energy technology, and, at The Australian National University, co-authoring a book on the regulation of unconventional gas production.

Last Week's Meeting Presentation

Arya Nagar the student the Club is sponsoring for the National Youth Science Forum

She gave a well presented and well spoken comment on her aims and aspirations at the Forum.

Arya is a well accomplished year 11 student, at Canberra Girls Grammar with the brains for science and a heart for service. She is interested in broad aspects of science including Electrical Engineering.  Among her many achievements she raised $1200 this year for Syrian refugees by eating only the rations a refugee for a week. We will be interested to hear from her later about the outcome of the Forum. (Photo published with permission from both Arya and her parents, as she is under 18).

RCCBG Partnership with Majura Primary School
Our Club has a Values and Citizenship Partnership with Majura Primary School.
One aspect of this ongoing encouragement to students who demonstrate the school values, with funds provided by our Club to support this. While the initial plan was to reward students with morning teas with the Principal, covid disruptions over the past few years made this unworkable. This year the school decided to award books to students who demonstrated values. Pictured are some of the books purchased for this purpose (photos courtesy of Majura Primary School).
A second aspect is an annual Rotary Citizenship Award, presented to a Year 6 student during the final assembly. Our Club has purchased a perpetual trophy and provides a bookstore gift card to the winner. This year’s final assembly is scheduled for 13 December.

How to Donate to the Ukraine Humanitarian Aid Appeal.

You will all remember Russell has done two presentations on the situation in Ukraine. Here is a way to help those who are suffering what could be called an attempt at Genocide by the Russian Federation.

The best place to donate is through RAWCS - project 83  2014-15  which started when Russia invaded and then annexed Crimea in 2014.

This is the project where the Sunflowers for Ukraine fundraising is being sent. More information can be found using this link  RAWCS Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal

FYI - there will be a 30th anniversary dinner for the Rotary District Peace Communities Program next February 26 here in Wagga.

If You can Donate Cash For the Flood relief then here is the details for Helping Out

Our District is taking steps to provide emergency relief for the many people affected by flooding in Central West NSW.
Our District is taking steps to provide emergency relief for the many people affected by flooding in Central West NSW.

The most affected people are in Area 1 of District 9705 (the most northern and western parts of the District) and mainly in and around the towns of Forbes, Eugowra and Condobolin at present.

The District is moving quickly to enable:
  • The collection of donations via:
    • RAWCS Project No: 32 2022-23 Central West New South Wales Communities Flood Relief funds distribution (Rotary Australia Benevolent Society RABS)
    • To distribute donated funds to people affected by the floods in Central West New South Wales communities
    • Donations to this project are tax deductible and are for distribution specifically to the Central West New South Wales region.
    • To donate to this fund, log into https://rawcs.org.au/donate/click on Donate to a specific project and follow the prompts
  • GIVIT Storms and Flood Appeal
    • Donations to this project are tax deductible and if you nominate where you want the funds to go to such as a town or community in Central West New South Wales, that will happen.
    • To donate to this fund, log into https://www.givit.org.au/donate-funds and follow the prompts.  Be sure to include in the comments block where you want the funds to go.
    • All funds donated go to the project nominated – there are no administration fees – unless you wish to give a donation direct to Givit.
  • Provision of emergency cash vouchers via Rotarians in Forbes and nearby towns
  • Operation of Community Hubs for donations of goods such as clothing, white goods, furniture   etc
  • Provision of other needs such as emergency accommodation
The District 9705 Emergency Relief Coordinator is Tony MaplePlease contact Tony via the District Directory.

The Community Hub Coordinator is the Area Governor for Area 1 Graham Parker.  He is working with Resilience NSW and the NSW SES.
Please do not contact Graham until further advice is provided.
We will soon advise you as to what is needed, where to send donated items, and where and when the Community Hubs will open.

THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO NOW IS TO DONATE FUNDS.  These will be converted to relief vouchers and issued by the Rotary Clubs of Forbes and nearby towns.

All assistance is vital – many have lost their homes, businesses etc and will take years to recover from this devastation.

It is likely volunteers will be sought to assist with the operation of the Community Hubs.  If you can provide a day or a week’s assistance, your support will  help many people in need.   More details will follow as plans firm up and information becomes available and thank you for your support.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
JOKES……..PONDERISMS
# 1
A paraprosdokian is a sentence or statement with an unexpected ending. It means  “against expectations” in Greek……….
Will glass coffins be a success ? Remains to be seen.
What’s the difference between a hippo and a zippo? One is really heavy and the  other is a little lighter.
Hear about the new restaurant called Karma? There’s no menu - you get what you  deserve.
I went to buy some camouflage trousers yesterday but couldn't find any.  What do you call a bee that can’t make up its mind? A maybe.  I tried to sue the airline for losing my luggage I I lost my case.  Is it ignorance or apathy that's destroying the world today? I don't know and don't  really care.
Wasn’t originally going to get a brain transplant, but then I changed my mind. Which country’s capital has the fastest growing population? Ireland! Every day  its Dublin.
I saw an ad for burial plots, and I thought, “that’s the last thing I need”. Need an Ark. I Noah a guy.
You’re not completely useless, you can always serve as a bad example.  I broke my finger last week. On the other hand, I’m okay.
To the mathematician who thought of the idea of zero. Thanks for nothing!  Son: "Dad, can you tell me what a solar eclipse is?” Dad: "No sun! PS The early bird catches the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese!
#2
A man and a woman were married for many years.
Whenever there was a confrontation, yelling could be heard deep into the night. The old man would shout, " When I die, I will dig my way up and out of the  grave,
and come back and haunt you for the rest of your life."
Neighbours feared him. The old man liked the fact that he was feared. Then one evening, he died when he was 98.
After the burial, her neighbours, concerned for her safety, asked, "Aren't you afraid that he may indeed be able to dig his way out of the grave and haunt you for the rest of your life?"
The wife said, "Let him dig. I had him buried upside down.......and I know he won't ask for directions."
