Hi everyone and thank you for the past year (well, 6 months). The commitment you have shown to the club has been much appreciated by me and others. We continue our search for a new meeting venue, there are certainty good points to the Mercure/Olims but we are still finetuning things with them as well as looking at other venues (Royal Canberra Golf Club).
Our changeover dinner is this Thursday, a good company and a good crowd is expected. 6:30 for 7:00 on Thursday, Saffron Restaurant Kingston (same as last year).
A cold weekend, hope you managed to stay warm. I have been getting ready for the City2Surf, again, so I did 10km around the lake this morning. OK when moving, but I wasn’t going to stop and chat for long. But we did manage to have both the kids in Sydney for the weekend, so a nice change.
See you all on Thursday, and thank you for everything this year.

Last week’s meeting: the Shitbox Rally
Monica presenting a certificate of appreciation to guest speaker Max, with President Warrick to the right. Thanks to Russell for the photo.
Our guest speaker at last week’s meeting was Max Gancarz, son of our esteemed member, Olek. Max gave an informative presentation on the background to the Shitbox Rally, which he will be participating in for the first time in October this year.
The Shitbox Rallies began in 2009, and occur triannually. The objective is to raise money for the Cancer Council while having fun at the same time. We heard that $48 million had been raised by the Rallies since their inception, with the National Health and Medical Research Council determining which cancer research projects are funded.
Max outlined the Rules and Principles of Rallying, the latter including the requirement to have fun! He will be participating with his father-in-law in the Spring Rally, which will go from Bendigo to Townsville from 13 to 20 October. The following Rally will run from 2 to 10 May next year. Further details are available at www.shitboxrally.com.au.
At the conclusion of the presentation, President Warrick announced a donation of $500 by the Club towards Max’s fund-raising. Olek also distributed to the members present cards with details of how to donate to this very worthy cause. Those who were not present will be able to obtain the cards from Olek.

Resolution to eliminate nuclear weapons
District Governor Andrea has approved our proposed resolution going forward from to Rotary International. This will be put to every Rotary District in the world for a vote in October/November. The wording of the resolution (without the preamble) is as follows:
RESOLUTION 24R-
To request the RI Board to consider supporting the growing international call for the complete elimination of nuclear weapons by calling upon the nine nuclear weapons possessing countries to negotiate an agreement to do so.
A blast from the past
I’ve been in this Club for 14 years now. Early on in my time we presented mugs to guest speakers. I’d forgotten all about this, until I saw this mug in an op shop and the memories returned. A bargain for $1!
