Notes on the run

Well, it seems to be a bit of a surprise long weekend for a lot of people. There have been quite a few I have spoken to who didn't know it was a long weekend until Friday. I hope you made the most of it, whether it was a surprise or not.
We have been in Sydney for the weekend. Last night we enjoyed  a fascinating tour of the 2 unused platforms at Wynyard station. They were used by trams in the 50s were converted to a carpark but have been abandoned since the 80s.
Last week's visit to Lids 4 Kids was great (well I thought so) I've got my bucket at home now. I hope everyone else enjoyed it too.
We are back at the  Commonwealth this week. Ruth Zanker will update us with the valuable services Communities at Work provide in our region.
Have a great week.

Last Week's meeting -
Visit to Lids4Kids
The event last Thursday night went well. In nearly 2 hours at the facility we learnt a lot and had hands-on practice at sorting lids into different colours, then sorting the colours into three types of plastic, inspected the injection mould that makes the seats which they sell, and tried our hands that making pens with a hand operated injection mould.

Stephen's adventure north - Visit to Rotary Club of Darwin Sunrise

During his travels to the NT, Member Stephen visited the Rotary Club of Darwin Sunrise on Friday, 24 May. This was a pleasant meeting over breakfast, with guest speaker Rotarian and ABC journalist Kirsty Nancarrow speaking about the work of Som Tamang, a Nepalese child slave who escaped and is helping educate children through a school in his home village. She’s written a book on his story, Himalayan Dreams, and is seeking to raise money to enable the school to continue until Year 12 (it currently only goes to Year 10).  Kirsty is willing to talk to our Club if she’s in Canberra on a meeting day, and I will touch base with her about this. The Rotary Club of Darwin Sunrise has a formal setting, with the President and another Board member at the front table directing the meeting. They also still have fines and raise further money through a raffle.

Wollundry Rotary Club Photograph Competition and Exhibition

Entries are now open and close on June 3rd, so get your entries in soon!
Entries can be made on any camera type, phone or traditional, and need only be 8"x12" in size.
Since digital photography has become popular, there are thousands of images made each day, many never seeing the light of day. And that's a real shame as there are some excellent shots just waiting to shine out.
