The President's Report

Apart from delivering the last Duty Roster for the year your President has little news this week due to the fact the last several days were spent sunning down the coast.

Can we please have as many members as possible attend our meeting next Thursday for our AGM. We will hear from an interesting speaker Dr David Marshall AM , who will tell us all about the Vulnerable Youth Project in Canberra.

Indigenous Projects

Our Indigenous Projects Education Charity will provide scholarships to indigenous students at Hay War Memorial High School for 2020. Their Awards Night is being held by ZOOM on 16th December this year when we will present the scholarships and hear from the teachers about the benefits they provide. Our aim is to encourage as many indigenous children as possible to complete their studies and gain a good grounding for future career studies.

We will also announce our 2020 school trip to Canberra for their students when we will show them around the main institutions including AIATSIS and introduce the children to the opportunities for further studies at universities, colleges and CIT.

Last Week's Meeting

Last Thursday 26 November we heard from Dr Sue Ingram from the ANU Department of Political and Social Change on How Institutional Design Shapes Political Outcomes. Sue explained why Institutions matter in achieving representative government with fair elections and administrative appeals tribunals.

Sue told us about her involvement in the East Timor Peacekeeping process and the establishment of institutions there to enable the formation of a new democratic State.
