9th September 2024 - Welcome to News Notes
Last Week's guest speaker: Tara Pullen
Tara Pullen, who is Vice President and Community Services Director of Canberra Sundowners Club, was our guest speaker to throw light on what  administrative arrangements are being developed under  the Regionalisation plan, and most importantly, what assistance can be provided to our Club during these difficult times where lunch venue, membership and club activities have been sorely hurt by post pandemic and cost of living crises, and a trend over 10 years showing that we have lost a net 11,000 members in our region.
Tara is introducing the Growth Plans amongst the 12 clubs in the Capital South group which is basically a mutual support group to share skills, marketing, and development and maintenance of valuable community activities.
Tara is keen to develop a cooperative culture both as a way to get to know each other better, but primarily to share our aging and shrinking resources . Joint participation in MUNA and the Peace Bell are classic opportunities for joint participation.
Thank you Tara - very well received presentation.  Bill Andrews PP.

Event: Community Information Session on Protection visas, being held in Canberra.
Date: Thursday, 12th Sep 2024
Time: 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm AEST
Location: ANU Research School of Social Sciences, 146 Ellery Cres, Acton ACT 2601.

You can register for the event here: Community Information Session on Protection Visas https://events.humanitix.com/community-information-session-on-protection-visas

Protection visas are for asylum seekers (or their family members) who face a real risk of significant harm or a real chance of persecution if they return to their home country - they are not for people who just want to stay in Australia to work. The Australian Government is taking action to stop people exploiting Australia’s Protection visa system while ensuring those who need asylum are quickly granted protection.
