Thursday 1st April
Last Thursday we held a Club forum which was very productive.

The desire for Zoom meetings seems to be decreasing but we have two more for this Rotary year which we will need to carry out due to the fact the speakers are not from Canberra.

Last meeting we inducted a new member Russell Dew and we have another experienced Rotarian who will transfer into our Club in a few weeks time. Please introduce your self to Russell and make him welcome. Russell has already made a huge contribution to our Peace Bell activities.

A reminder that you can become a Centurian for a donation of $100. to the Rotary Foundation. The easy way to achieve this goal is to just pay Ross a few extra dollars each meeting until the amount of $100. is reached.
Our goal is to get as many members as possible as a Centurian.

Our change over dinner is not that far away and we need to find a suitable venue. We have a couple in mind but if anyone can come up with an idea for a suitable place to hold this function , please let me know.

This week we will welcome Her Excellency Hellen de la Vega, Ambassador for Phillipines as our guest speaker.  Please make her welome. We will also hear from Daniel Mutyabule our student at the NYSF 2021.

 Interesting bit of History

At local taverns, pubs, and bars people drank from pint and quart-sized containers.
A bar maids job was to keep an eye on the customers and keep the drinks coming. She had to pay close attention and remember who was drinking in 'pints' and who was drinking in 'quarts' hence the term minding your 'P's and 'Q's.

In the late 1700's many houses consisted of a large room with only one chair. Commonly , a long wide board folded from the wall, and was used for dining. The ' head of the household ' always sat in the chair while everyone else ate sitting on the floor.
Occasionally a guest , would be invited to sit in this chair during a meal. To sit in the chair meant you were important and in charge.
They called the one sitting in the chair the ' Chair man '. Today in business we use the expression or title ' Chairman ' or  “Chairperson” ' Chairman of the Board' etc.
