District Governor Maureen Club Vist

District Governor Maureen reported that she’d had a great start to her Rotary year, visiting many clubs; meeting some people from Vietnam who wished to start a Rotary Club there (and had been working on this for several years); and meeting First Lady of Timor Leste and some of the amazing doctors who assist and [...]

A Presentation on Tonga’s Monarchy

On 18 July 2013, Areti Metuamate of the ANU enlightened us all with a delightful and informative presentation on King George Tupou V of Tonga – a unique type of Pacific leader. Areti, who is of Cook Islander descent and attended our lunch-time meeting with his very welcome mother, who didn't look old enough to be his mother, has himself had quite a longstanding relationship with Rotary, his closest friend having been a Rotary Exchange Student who benefitted from that experience enormously and went on to engage in a Rotary Peace Fellowship. Apart from his doctorate studies at ANU, Areti is heavily engaged in student union activities and in working with community groups, including those of a Maori background. In his research over the last 8 years, Areti has focussed on the Tongan monarchy, which is the last independent monarchy in the Pacific. The main conclusion he has drawn from that research is that the Tongan monarchy is quite unique, drawing much of its vigour from its strong and continuing association with the British Crown, but independent from it.

2012-13 Presidents Report

Another Rotary year closes and it’s time to reflect and learn from the past twelve months.  My aim this year was to lead the club with a small active board supported by member’s assigned responsibility for specific events.  This was largely successful however some members missed the structure of the committees. We lost several members [...]

New Member Induction – Andrea Conti

2 April 2013 Well last week was certainly one of the busiest meetings that I can recall for some time.  Following on from the induction of Phoenix last week, Andrea Conti was inducted into the club.  The two new young members seemed to prelude the three guest speakers who all connected to Rotary through youth [...]
